We got the fourth season of The Wire as soon as it was released on DVD, but with the holidays, only just finished off the first DVD this weekend. Continues to be, with the interweaving and overarching stories and compelling — though not always appealing — characters, probably the best thing on television ever (though I still miss its predecessor Homicide).Recently ran across this article in an old The New Yorker with a look at its creator. And then Coudal offered up this article, which is heavier on some of the technical aspects.

Yesterday at the shop, Chris was asking what I saw in Infinite Horizon that made me want to add it to my pull list. First off, the art is pretty amazing and clever — as long as all the lack of background is in keeping with the story and not just cutting corners. Then the story takes a high-concept premise that could easily descend into cliché, but doesn't (at least not yet). It kinda bends cliché and preconceptions, with a not-entirely appealing main character, a setting that's all-too possible but still a bit unexpected, and unusual pacing. Though the whole Penelope storyline has started out a little weak; plus, isn't there supposed to be a dog? And, finally, check out that cover. Two words: lens flare. Bram 12.27.2007

From the OED, it's "locavore." And Merriam Webster says it's w00t.". The words of the year. Bram On books moving from the Web to print. Not specifically about comics, but there's some in there. Seen plenty of people at cons recently — using the Webcomics to build material for the book, using the book to pay for making the Webcomics. Good to see.
