Occasional posts from (usually) Bram and (sometimes) Monica about comics in general, this comic in particular, art, design, publishing, visual culture, and far, far too many things about actual squirrels.

I, for one, welcome our new mecha-squirrel overlords.

Latest comic Midnight Fiction's introduced me to: Tozo — the Public Servant. Starting from the beginning now; a little bit steampunk, a little bit Tintin.

Just added to the RSS feed, Rip Haywire, because of Midnight Fiction. Instantly liked the art, we'll see how it all goes.

So Friday's New Comic Night was pretty epic. Stumptown looks to be even more amazing than hoped; North 40, while still not my style, is smart and moving along; I wish Underground was better, but it's still clever and great-looking; Agents of Atlas v. X-Men, harmless fun.

But Atomika? What issue of Nextwave was it, 10 or 11, the all-splash-page series of battles with Ellis-created weirdness? Yeah, it was funny, though buying at the time, seemed like cheating (though it holds together well as a whole). Atomika this month, same thing, but I think irony-free. And it was OK, but then to have the last spread be "War" with the floating faces that have passed for storytelling in this comic, and then the next page have it all over … if this isn't satire … I …

I tell Raph that you learn as much from the bad ones as you do the good ones (which is why I've been following it [well, that and the alternate Russian history stuff]). But I'm hard-pressed to get anything out of this title other than the value of smart marketing.

A busy weekend for 7000 BC
Catching up on io9, there was this article on writing dialog, something I've been working on for … well, it's something I'm working on. You'll see the how it went in an upcoming issue of RBS.

Recently added to the RSS feed, Temple of the Seven Golden Camels, an animator sharing his storytelling knowledge. After a bit of time away, today's installment is staging, valuable even if you're working in two dimensions.
