Skinwalkers

A little reluctant to admit, have only read one Tony Hillerman mystery. I liked it well enough, understand his importance and appeal, but didn't need to go any further.

We finally (after years in the queue) got to the second (actually first, turns out we viewed out of order) Mystery adaptation of his novel.

And I have to say — I like the TV better. They're filled with more moments of nothing happening than something, and certainly more nothing than anything on TV now. The West is all about the negative space — the moments of stillness, of quiet, of nothing to look at — that make you appreciate what is there. Not without their flaws, but I think these adaptations capture that better than the novels, where there always has to be something filling up the pages.

Squirrel Power

"The lights go out when our electrical grid can find no way around this stuck hunk of dead weight that used to be a squirrel." Via Andy, this NYT piece is well worth one of your free reads.
